What Happens to the Light?

By Kathy Broady MSW 29 Comments

It's Winter Solstice week -- time that is often difficult for far too many dissociative trauma survivors. It's a time where days are short, and nights are long. Far too long. It's a day where light feels complicated. Fractured. Broken. Dark. For others, depending on where you live in the world, it could be Summer Solstice -- the days with the longest light.   Every year, these solstice dates -- Winter or … [Read more...]

Wintertime – A Dark Night for Winter Solstice

By Kathy Broady MSW 18 Comments

Well…. it’s December 21st in the northern hemisphere.  Making today the Winter Solstice. In the southern hemisphere, like in Australia, this is the Summer Solstice. I originally wrote this article when I lived in Dallas.   The weather in Dallas was nearly 80 degrees Fahrenheit that day, making for a very warm day even though it is considered to be the official first day of winter.  It’s the Winter Solstice and … [Read more...]

A Double-Sided Halloween Weekend

By Kathy Broady MSW 31 Comments

It’s Halloween weekend again -- a season full of flashbacks and trauma for many dissociative trauma survivors.  It feels dark.  It feels scary.  In some ways, it's the worst time of the year, and if this is the case, the flashbacks are pretty horrific.  So......... let's do a less scary flashback with this article.    Think back to 2010.  That year, back in 2010, I was reminded of the dichotomy our society … [Read more...]

Doubly Difficult Days for DID Survivors

By Kathy Broady MSW 28 Comments

This weekend is often a difficult weekend for trauma survivors with dissociative identity disorder.  First, there is Father’s Day (for those of us living in the USA), and secondly, it’s the Summer Solstice.  Anytime the difficult days get stacked on top of each other, it’s going to make for a complicated time.   On days when the issues seem to surface in layers, what do you do to cope? **This blog article is … [Read more...]

This is Easter Weekend

By Kathy Broady MSW 39 Comments

Hi, This is Easter weekend. For DID trauma survivors with a ritual abuse (RA) background, this is a very difficult weekend, full of difficult memories, painful emotions, and system conflicts.   *** I’m going to speak of some of the horrors of ritual abuse – here is your trigger warning – for those of you that need one of those. ***   With ritual abuse, anything that represented something … [Read more...]
