Yes we have dancing at the P4² DID Conference!
Oh, don’t worry. No panic necessary!
Isn’t that a fun video?!!
And yes, for real, we do have a creative and interesting series of dance and body movement options prepared for you. Zoomers will see several videos, shown throughout the conference weekend, and those of us in the room may get a little more creative with where and when we bust out our fancy-dancy moves. Many of us (including me!) are non-dancers, so not to worry — if you are feeling self-conscious, you won’t be alone! But we’re not approaching this activity with judgement. Or force.
No judging, and no forcing allowed. Jumping and flippy around FUNNING is allowed. 🙂
Besides, dance and movement are important elements of healing.
Most trauma survivors have a variety of body issues. Stiffness. Aches and pains. Frozen moments. Dissociation, separation, and detachment from the body. These are all leftover effects from managing and surviving the trauma that occurred. The body still holds trauma information. It still remembers. It still feels. It still hurts. It has trouble moving.
On top of regular trauma issues, add in all the complications of a system of people sharing a body. Who is in the body when? Who feels the body to be too big? Who feels the body to be too small? Who doesn’t even recognize the body at all? Who controls the feet? the arms? the hands? How often does that change? How often do you not see who just did what with the body?
So when addressing trauma issues, and dissociative issues, taking purposeful time to reconnect with the body, and creating a variety of body movement is both challenging but also significant.
Now our P4² dance and body movement activities will be mostly for fun, although our dance leader does present some helpful education along the way. No, you will not have to learn choreographed routines. No, you don’t have to get up in front of anyone and embarrass yourself. Yes, you are most certainly welcomed to enjoy yourself, wiggle like you want to, and try a few new moves. You have a full range of participation options available for you. Remember. No judgement, and no force.
Besides you Zoomers will be in the privacy of your own home. Turn your camera off, and dance as wild as you want to! No one will see you, and you’ll get a nice little break in between some of the heavier chunks of information. Feel free to go a little wild in your wiggles!
Let your littles shake it loose for a little while!
