Our New DID Community Forum is OPEN!

By Kathy Broady MSW 10 Comments

Yes! The New DDCF Forum is HERE!

Wow.  Happy days are here again.  Because, after a long battle of bumbling and fumbling around with our old forum platform, I’m enormously pleased to announce that the shiny new DDCF forum platform is bright and beautiful.   Yes, our new forum site is now open and it’s working splendidly!

The DDCF Community is adjusting to the new look, the new feel, the new features, and we are having a good time connecting together as a group.  It feels like a brand new beginning because this forum looks and responds so differently from before.  Of course, new things can feel scary and unsettling, but as a whole, we are finding more and more positive aspects to this change.

I’m feeling pretty confident that overall, our upgraded forum is a much better home for DDCF.

In a recent email to the Forum Members, I included a few of the comments made by Community members themselves, made at their first look around the new forum:

“the new forum looks wonderful!! Good job!”

“Awesome!!!  I am just finding my way around but it feels very intuitive and easy to navigate.  I am already loving some of the added features.”

“Yep I have to agree this is much better!”

“I love it too!”

“wow!…just wow! this is so amazing looking!”

“I love it also.  It looks so clean and fresh. Can’t wait to explore more options.”

And, while I was writing that email, I also listed out some of the New Features of this new Forum Platform.  Mind you, this is only a partial list, as this Forum is full of good stuff — there are a whole lot more than ten happy features to list.  But, to not be too over-the-top and overly excited, I’ll stick with these ten.

10 New Fun and Fantastic Features at DDCF

1.  The layout is completely different, and we can see the posts, pages of posts, and forum folders a zillion times more clearly.  Navigation is now a breeze.

2.  You can set this forum to match your own timezone.  That’s gotta be helpful.  Less time confusion is a good!

3.  If you wanna add a variety of colors to your post, you can do that.  It seems as if the littles are enjoying that feature, I think.  Rainbow typing is possible!

4.  We now have the ability to tag each other in conversations, so if you are writing specifically other forum members, they get a notification that you mentioned them.

5.  We now have an announcement area at the top of the page.  That makes it super quick and easy to be aware of any new info.

6.  With a simple click, we can say thank you and show appreciation and gratitude to someone who wrote a post that had meaning and value.  No other words needed.

7.  We can subscribe to lists of favorite threads, and then receive email notifications when there is activity in that thread.

8.  We get little blue flag notifications for new posts.  These flags easily highlight the brand new posts, and also mark the new posts that have been added to topics where you’ve read before.  In addition, there is a quick and easy way to see topics with unread posts.

9.  We have an Important Day feature that allows the Community to know when a significant or important day occurs for you. This creates more space for support, understanding, and encouragement.

10.  Administrative abilities are sooooo much better.  Laura and I can handle unique needs and requests much easier, and hopefully, much more effectively.

Now, let me brag about the DDCF Community again.

Sorry — (not sorry!) — I can’t help myself but to speak highly of the DDCF Forum Members again.

I am really sooo proud of this group of folks!!

As a group, they are in various stages of healing, but everyone is accepted.   As people, they live in areas all over the world, but we come together as a united community.   These forum members each do such incredible healing work, daring to have open and honest conversations about the many layers of dissociative life.   I see group members connecting together on a social level, and also with their inside system as well.  This DDCF Community spends quality time with each other, and they have made having an online forum a wonderful experience.

That is exciting to say.

When looking at this group of dissociative survivors, I see:

A group of survivors who truly understand what it feels like to be dissociative, and to live life as many different people within one body.

For anyone who feels isolated or alone with their DID, or for anyone who is struggling to accept their DID system, this community will truly understand how life is for you.  They know, because their lives are similar.  Questions such as, “Have you ever experienced this?” typically get numerous responses of confirmation.  Yep.  They know what you’re talking about.

A group of dissociative survivors who are actively working on their healing, stability, and functioning, with honesty, and integrity, and commitment.

Giving and receiving encouragement and support helps with even the most painful of healing processes.  And yep, even some of the hardest of topics are woven into our conversations.   At the same time, forum members have the option to totally avoid and ignore topics that are just not comfortable for them.

A group of dissociative survivors who are building relationships, forming friendships, feeling less alone, and being understood.

Of course this helps.  Need I say more?

A group of DID systems who are learning more and more about their own group of insiders, seeing the posts written by their own inside system people, having conversations with their own inside parts, and building relationships with their own inside folks.

And this is the primary goal of healing, is it not?  To learn more about your own system?!  To build better bonds and relationships with your own system?  Of course it is!  I’m so please to say there is a lot of incredible system work happening right here in DDCF, and I can’t be happier about that.  THIS is what brings music to my ears.

A group of dissociative systems who allow themselves to play!  Some of the kids, teenagers, and even the adults participate in fun games that bring joy, and giggling, and happiness to their day.

It can’t be ALL hard work!   We gotta have playtime too!

Of course, the point of mentioning all this on a Discussing Dissociation blog post is to say that it’s not too late for you to join the DDCF community as well.

Wanna join in?

Go HERE for more information.

Oh, and now that we have our upgraded forum platform, the Educational Forum is not that far away.   I’ll be sending out more information about that in weeks to come.

THANK YOU, DDCF Community Members!

I’m truly enjoying spending time with each and every one of you.

Best wishes for even more healthy steps on your healing journey.

Warmly,

Kathy

Yes, Vicki! I agree 100% with linda! We hope you will write more! We “vent” a lot here….it is our way of processing stuff – a way to be heard when we feel like we need to be truly heard and understood….our stories and our current situations may be different for each of us….but pain is still pain….struggle is still struggle….and we understand that….we are all here to “hear” you….

We’re barely holding on. We think everyone on this website has disappeared though. Lots of us are afraid that we are going to disappear as well.

Oh HazelE – we were battling that, too….hit with being “abandoned” and “who” we are is invisible…..had to keep making myself remember that all the “panic” was coming from parts being triggered while “brain” was saying “there must be a logical explanation”……

Still ….. the bouncing conflict is hard to walk through……

We are here, HazelE……I check just about everyday to see if anybody is here…..to remember that we are not alone…..

Where can I find info on how to act towards the parts as a wife./spouse.

How should I treat them . I don’t know if what I do helps or hurts the process.
When a grown man on the outside is acting and thinking as a child etc.

Question: Has anyone ever felt like their DID went into “remission “? I had a really bad fall (broken L arm, broken rib, skin tear R arm, teeth puncture through lower lip and chin.) and in the last 2 weeks DID went away. I feel like magic, I’m healed. But I’m afraid even terrified because I was doing sso poorly for the last several months. I just want it gone and to be ok!

      Hi Linda,

Sorry to hear about your fall. I hope you have a speedy recovery.

I am new to this forum but I saw your message and I have had a similar experience. Last year I had my tonsils out. I remember waking from the anesthetic and a terrified little one was very distressed. Oh my, was she screaming inside! But then I suddenly became incredibly calm. And I remained that way for the next 2-3 weeks.

I have come to realise I have a very calm helper part who sometimes acts as a shield for my little ones. When she is present, I feel completely normal and calm. I think she stepped in after my operation and for the recovery time to help my little ones.

The emotional parts kicked back into gear after I had recovered!

Everyone’s system is unique, but maybe something similar might be happening for you?

      Get better soon!

Thanks, Pearly, that’s what happened for me, after a few weeks I’m a little more aware of parts again. But mostly my parts are very individual and secretive. I’m not even aware I’m switching, but my therapist calls me on it… I don’t Know!
