Kathy’s Video Comment: Making a Calm Place Inside your Dissociative World

By Kathy Broady MSW 7 Comments

Hello Hello,

Are you ready for or interested in another video?

Here are a few of my thoughts spoken out loud about the value of dissociative trauma survivors creating an internal place of safety and comfort.

This YouTube video is called:

Making Your Own Internal Calm Place
Spoken by Kathy of Discussing Dissociation

Found on the Discussing Dissociation YouTube channel.

Oh, and on the video today, if you look carefully, at the very end of the video, you will see a duck floating by.  It’s a little hard to see though, but it’s there!

I hope these ideas are helpful.

Warmly,

Kathy

I need to find where my Truth is held. I am locked in this place and I am sure it was for good reason. It has become too big. The fork in the path is between settling with Truth or continuing to create more Fantasy. Creating more Fantasy is starting to feel damaging. I know I have been running away and my capacity for retention is very high. I feel I am ready to accept Truth. At least ready to stop running. Truth will probably frighten, I say this because fear has not been here in a long time.

    Hi Kathy,
This whole thing just upsets me so very very much! I have been trying for years to build my inside landscape. Years ago I built a village with little homes for some who wanted to not be in with others. A larger home where several lives. We even had a meeting place.
But it all seemed so imaginary. Not real at all. I tried to believe. Insiders tried. I know they did. But it just didn’t seem to work. So we gave up for awhile.
Now, years later I have tried again to build an internal landscape, this time in a campground with lovely surroundings, with toys, But always, always there is a problem..
And with your video, you say it’s safe there… just like our inside landscape is supposed to be a safe place. But it doesn’t seem safe.
In your video, what if a bee stung you while you were relaxing your safe place? It wouldn’t feel safe anymore.
Every single thing I try… something comes up and makes it feel unsafe. I put an invisible shield over the campground… then I have to post a guard so someone doesn’t bust through the shield and get in… there is always fear. Fear that something from somewhere will destroy our safe place!
Do I just have to keep trying over and over again to build something that will be suitable for us all…. where we can feel safe from all danger???
Thank you for all you do. Your articles are so helpful. Every time I/We have a question, we come here and search and find an answer.
I hope we can find an answer to this one.

Maybe for the next send-in-your-pictures series there can be pictures or drawings of nice places Inside. Also, I like that a duck goes by – I found it!

That’s a great idea, anemonerosie! Another send-in-your-pictures series would be fun. I will keep that in mind as I plan things ahead.

I’m glad you found that little duck!! It’s kinda hard to see, so you did a great job looking! Well done. 🙂

      Warmly,
      Kathy

    Hi Kathy!!
I saw your puppy in the video!!! Hi puppy!! I like all your videos very much. I get to see your face!!! I never saw your face before. I have a meadow in my world. It is a beautiful place with a stream and a tree you can climb. How fun is that!!

      Hi Annie, 🙂
Thank you for writing to me. It’s great news to hear that you like the videos. 🙂 yay! I’m sure my puppy will continue to make appearances…. She’s nearly always right near by. And yes, it’s probably a little weird and new for people to see my face, but I’m hoping its a helpful idea to hear me explain things that way too.

I really like the sounds of your meadow and stream. That sounds like a really cool place. That’s excellent.

Keep up the good work Annie, and have fun playing in your beautiful place!
      Warmly,
      Kathy
